Port de Valldemossa Climb: A Must-Do Challenge
If you love quiet roads with lots of switchbacks, you’ll absolutely love the Port de Valldemossa climb. Starting at sea level, this 5km effort features an average gradient of 7%, offering some of the most thrilling riding you’ll find anywhere in Mallorca. Get ready for sharp hairpin turns, cliff faces, and breathtaking vertical drop-offs!
Cycling in Mallorca? This iconic climb needs to be on your list. Many cyclists rate it higher than Sa Calobra, and with good reason—it’s a gem. Why not make it part of your best route on the island?
The Descent
When descending, take note: just 1km off the main MA-10, between Andratx and Pollença, the road surface (unlike most of Mallorca) isn’t in great shape, so be cautious. The road is very narrow, so two cars can’t pass without one having to stop, but luckily, the traffic is light.
The stunning views will have you constantly looking around, but keep your eyes on the road! Plenty of shady trees line the hairpins, providing much-needed relief on warmer days. As you roll into the sleepy Port de Valldemossa, it’ll feel like your visit has just begun—again.
The Port
At the port, you’ll find a small car park, a few fishing boats, and a fantastic restaurant waiting for you.
The prices are surprisingly reasonable, considering how isolated the spot is. The menu offers a wide range of delicious options (including amazing cakes), great service, and high-quality food—so don’t hold back! Just remember to keep portion sizes in check, because there’s more climbing ahead!
The Ascent
Once you’ve soaked in the peaceful vibe of Port de Valldemossa, the real fun begins. The steady 7% gradient is relentless but exhilarating, packed with twists, turns, and more cliff-side views. Enjoy every moment of it!
Things to be aware of
Be mindful of the occasional rental car driven by holidaymakers (the locals never seem to leave!), as they can be a bit unpredictable. Enjoy the ride!
